Q. So I took my 3 year old to the Dr this afternoon. He is running a 102+ fever and crying a lot saying his eyes hurt. We got there and the nurse took a oral temp ( how many 3 year olds actually give accurate readings) and told me he doesn't have a fever and the Dr was pretty dismissive because he perked up a bit at the office. Does anyone have any ideas what to do for him :( we are tricare prime so Drs are pretty limited for us I just feel like something is off here :(

You can take your thermometer and show them your reading. Them them that a 3 year old won't be able to do an oral reading accurately.
What have you given him?

Motrin

Did it break yet? Maybe you can call the nurses line.
Usually we do rotate Tylenol and Advil.

He hasn't broken it yet. Last time I did a rotate on Tylenol and Motrin we ended up in the hospital with blood in his stool :( I am so scared to do it again :(

Oh no! Now it's the middle of the night there, huh?
There's always urgent care or the er.

Take him back if he doesn't improve and have them take an axillary temp, under the arm! Temporal and oral temps are not accurate especially when younger kids don't keep their tongues still or don't hold it in the correct place. And if he was complaining of his eyes hurting, they should have turned the lights off in the room and looked at his eyes with a light. Did they take his blood pressure?
